He did not apologize the way innocent people do.

Don’t bring attorneys into a family misunderstanding.
Maren read every line and felt calmer with each one.
Not because it hurt less.
Because it clarified more.
He still cared more about containment than remorse.
When she finally responded, she wrote only:
Do not contact my mother again. All future communication goes through counsel.
He called immediately.
She did not answer.
Evelyn texted an hour later:
You are allowing outsiders to destroy your marriage.
Maren stared at the message.

Garrett destroyed my marriage when he kicked my mother. You helped him by acting surprised too late.
