Chapter 10 - The King Walks Again

When Massimo saw the chemical evidence of the deep, intimate betrayal, his reaction was not explosive rage. It was a cold, terrifying, and absolutely lethal absolute silence. He immediately ordered Tessa to completely flush the toxic medications down the drain and secretly replace them with the correct, aggressive nerve-stimulating treatments.
Over the next four months, operating entirely in total secrecy behind the locked doors of the luxury penthouse, Massimo and Tessa went to war.
Free from the toxic inhibitors, and pushed relentlessly by Tessa’s brilliant, uncompromising physical therapy, Massimo’s body began to miraculously heal. The agonizing, grueling sessions paid off. He slowly regained feeling in his toes, then his calves, and finally, his heavy, muscular thighs. He endured excruciating pain, refusing to quit, driven by the absolute, burning need for ultimate vengeance.
Five months after the bathroom confrontation, the traitorous underboss finally made his move.
Believing Massimo was permanently crippled and weak, the underboss called a massive, mandatory meeting of all the syndicate captains in the grand dining room of the penthouse, fully intending to publicly demand Massimo step down and surrender the empire.
The underboss stood at the head of the table, smiling arrogantly as he looked down at Massimo sitting quietly in his sleek black wheelchair.
"It's time to face reality, Massimo," the traitor sneered. "A cripple cannot lead this family. You are weak. It's time to pass the crown."
Massimo Pascale smiled. It was a dark, terrifying, and utterly lethal smile.
He placed his massive, heavily tattooed hands on the armrests of his wheelchair. The entire room plunged into a dead, absolute silence as the captains watched the impossible happen.
Massimo slowly, powerfully, and entirely independently stood completely up from the wheelchair. He towered over the long mahogany table, completely regaining his full, terrifying, six-foot-three apex predator height.
The traitorous underboss gasped in sheer, unadulterated horror, the color completely draining from his arrogant face as he realized his poisonous coup had entirely failed.
"I am not weak," Massimo rumbled, his deep voice shaking the walls of the penthouse. He reached across the table, his massive hand closing violently around the traitor's throat, lifting the whimpering man entirely off the ground in front of the stunned captains. "And my crown stays exactly where it is."
The brutal, absolute destruction of the traitor and his loyalists was swift and uncompromising, permanently securing Massimo's total, terrifying grip on the Boston underworld.
That evening, Massimo walked slowly but steadily into the medical wing of the penthouse, completely leaving the sleek black wheelchair behind. He found Tessa packing her medical bag, preparing to leave now that her contract was technically fulfilled.
Massimo reached out, gently placing his large, tattooed hand over hers, completely stopping her from leaving.
He didn't speak to her with the cold, arrogant authority of a mafia boss. He looked down at the fierce, fearless brunette with profound, unreserved, and deeply passionate devotion.
"You aren't going anywhere, Tessa," Massimo said softly, his intense eyes promising her absolute protection and immense power. "You didn't just save my legs. You saved my empire. I need my queen."

Justice had prevailed, the traitor was cast out into the dirt, and the fierce therapist who refused to back down had completely captured the heart of the most dangerous man in the city.
What would you do if you realized the person you were treating was secretly being poisoned?
