Chapter 2 - The Hit-and-Run
To understand the sheer, sociopathic cruelty of three young men laughing at a comatose woman, one had to look back at the horrific, violent events of the previous Friday night.
Emma was a twenty-eight-year-old dedicated, sweet, and fiercely beloved local preschool teacher. She had been driving her modest, ten-year-old sedan home after spending hours volunteering at a community charity drive. She was crossing an intersection on a green light, completely obeying the law.
Without any warning, a massive, custom-built, half-million-dollar sports car blew through the red light at over a hundred miles per hour.
The three wealthy college boys were inside the Porsche, blackout drunk and recklessly racing through the city streets after a high-society fraternity party. The heavy sports car violently T-boned Emma’s small sedan, completely crushing the driver's side door and sending her vehicle spinning uncontrollably into a concrete retaining wall.
Emma's body was completely shattered by the sheer force of the impact. She suffered multiple severe fractures, massive internal bleeding, and a devastating traumatic brain injury that plunged her instantly into a deep, terrifying coma.
But the three boys didn't call 911. They didn't get out of their car to check if the innocent woman they hit was even breathing.
They simply reversed their expensive, damaged vehicle, laughed at the wreckage, and sped away into the night, cowardly fleeing the scene of the horrific crime to hide behind the immense, protective walls of their wealthy families' estates.
