Chapter 7 - The Arrest in the Hallway

"Stop right there!"

The harsh, aggressive shout echoed through the marble hallway just as Carmen was walking toward the back exit.

Marco marched toward her, flanked by Silvia and two heavy security guards who were loyal to him. Marco’s face was twisted in fake, self-righteous anger.

"What's in the bag, Carmen?" Marco demanded, blocking her path.

Carmen flinched, clutching her worn-out tote tightly against her chest. "Just my clothes, sir. I'm going home."

"Check it," Marco barked at Silvia.

Silvia eagerly snatched the bag from the terrified maid’s hands. She dumped the contents aggressively onto the floor. Among the cheap soap and torn clothes, the heavy, diamond-encrusted Rolex clattered loudly onto the marble.

Carmen gasped, her eyes going wide with absolute horror. "No! I didn't take that! I swear to God I didn't take that!"

"You ungrateful thief!" Silvia shrieked theatrically. "Mr. Torino gave you a job, and you steal from his personal bedroom?!"

Marco drew his heavy pistol, pressing the barrel aggressively against Carmen’s chest. The maid collapsed to her knees, sobbing uncontrollably.

"In this family, we have a strict policy for thieves," Marco said coldly, cocking the gun. He planned to shoot her right here and claim she tried to attack him. Dead women couldn't talk about payrolls.

"Please!" Carmen begged, tears streaming down her pale face, her hands raised in defense. "I have a little girl! Isabella needs me! Please don't kill me!"

"Nobody cares about your brat," Marco sneered, his finger tightening on the trigger. "Say goodbye, Carmen."
