Chapter 1 - The Champagne Insult

The grand ballroom of the five-star Chicago hotel was a glittering masterpiece of cinematic wealth. Crystal chandeliers cast a brilliant, warm glow over the high-society charity gala, where the city’s elite mingled in designer tuxedos and million-dollar gowns. But amidst the sea of artificial laughter and polite applause, a sudden, vicious act of humiliation froze the room.
Vivienne Cross stood near the velvet ropes of the VIP table. The 40-year-old wealthy socialite was a striking figure, dripping in diamonds and wearing a luxurious, flowing crimson evening gown. She was elegant, calculating, and exceptionally cruel.
Walking quietly toward the VIP section was a man.
He was incredibly rugged, muscular, and battle-hardened, moving with a heavy, masculine silence. He wore a simple, unbranded dark suit without a single luxury accessory or expensive watch. To Vivienne, he looked like a lost, low-class driver who had somehow slipped past the security detail.
She wasn't going to let him ruin her photo op.
Vivienne stepped directly in front of the man, blocking his path. Without breaking eye contact, she picked up a full crystal glass of expensive champagne from a passing waiter’s tray.
With a cold, arrogant smirk, she deliberately tilted the glass, pouring the entire contents directly over his dark suit jacket.

"Know your place and wait outside," Vivienne scoffed, her voice loud enough for the surrounding millionaires to hear.
👉 Vivienne expected the man to lower his head and walk away in shame, but his chilling reaction was about to completely paralyze her.
