The elite guests held their collective breath. The man in the all-black suit stood up slowly, towering over the room. He was Julian Vance, the notoriously reclusive tech titan and venture capitalist who owned half the skyscrapers in the city.

Abigail staggered back a step, her mind spinning. She was just a struggling twenty-four-year-old working double shifts to pay for her tiny apartment, hiding a secret she thought she would take to her grave.

"Eight years ago," Julian continued, his voice thick with unshed tears as he looked at Abigail’s face, tracing the exact shape of her eyes, "my entire world was ripped apart. Someone I trusted more than my own life stole everything from me, including the only person I ever truly loved."

He took a step closer, his dark wavy hair falling over his forehead.

"Her name was Abigail Vance," Julian said softly. "My younger sister. Banished by our ruthless father because she refused an arranged corporate marriage. He stripped her of her name, threw her out into the rain with nothing, and threatened to destroy anyone who ever helped her."

Abigail’s breath caught in her throat. The silver tray slipped from her shaking fingers, clattering loudly against the marble floor again.
