Chapter 8 - The Ultimate Betrayal

"Richard?" Julian whispered. The name sounded less like a word and more like a death sentence.
Julian slowly turned around. He looked at Richard—the man he had recently invited into a joint business venture, the man he had trusted as a peer.
Richard staggered backward, holding his hands up defensively. "Julian! Wait! It's a misunderstanding! I didn't know she was your sister! She told me she had no family!"
"You lied to her about your identity to trap her, you manipulated her into an illegal NDA, and then you threw her out onto the street when she got pregnant because she didn't fit your high-society image," Julian recited coldly, stepping forward with terrifying precision. "My investigators handed me your file this morning, Richard. I just hadn't opened the folder yet."
Richard swallowed hard, his throat dry as bone. "We can make a deal! Fifty percent of my holdings—"
"You don't own holdings anymore," Julian interrupted smoothly. "You own a prison cell. Because abandoning a pregnant woman while forging corporate embezzlement documents under her name—which you also did—carries a mandatory federal sentence."
As if on cue, the heavy double doors of the ballroom swung open once more.
