Chapter 2 - The Scarred King

The entire section of the ballroom went completely, horrifyingly silent.

Leandro Vitali was a towering, heavily muscular construction magnate whose companies dominated massive development projects across the Midwest. But the legitimate steel and concrete businesses were only a fraction of his empire. Behind the corporate facade stood the most feared, ruthless mafia organization in the region.

Four years earlier, Leandro had survived a terrible crash during a brutal blizzard. The horrific accident had left deep, intimidating scars across the left side of his face and nearly destroyed his left eye.

Since that night, people only whispered about his appearance. Cowards refused to look at him. Arrogant socialites like Blair and Wesley stared when they thought he wouldn't notice. They genuinely thought seating a plus-size, department-store girl next to the disfigured mafia boss would be the ultimate, hilarious joke of the evening.

Leandro didn't look at Wesley. He didn't look at Blair.

He walked slowly around the table, his presence radiating an absolute, suffocating authority, and stopped directly in front of me.

He extended his large, scarred hand.

"Dance with me," Leandro said. His voice was deep, smooth, and incredibly calm.

I stared at his hand, my heart hammering violently against my ribs. "Are you serious?"

"Completely," Leandro replied, his dark, intense right eye locking onto mine.

Across the table, Blair’s smug smile completely vanished, replaced by furious confusion. Wesley's mouth actually hung open. Even the massive, heavily armed security guard standing discreetly near Leandro seemed absolutely stunned.
