Chapter 3 - The King's Treatment

Julian stopped exactly two feet in front of Victoria. He pointed a large, tattooed finger directly into her face.
"You told me you treated him like a king," Julian hissed, his voice vibrating with a dark, demonic promise of violence.
Victoria swallowed hard, visibly sweating under his intense, lethal scrutiny.
"I do, Julian! I swear!" Victoria lied desperately, her voice shrill. "Your father's dementia is getting worse! He refuses to eat! The doctors told me to let him rest! This pregnant maid doesn't understand medical protocol. She was just annoying him!"
Julian didn't look at his stepmother. He slowly turned his head to look at me.
I was still holding my pregnant belly, shaking from the adrenaline. Julian had always been terrifying to the staff, a cold, untouchable boss. I fully expected him to believe his wealthy stepmother and fire me on the spot.
"Is she telling the truth?" Julian asked me, his dark eyes demanding absolute honesty.
I looked at Mr. Sterling, who was watching me with desperate, pleading eyes. I had sworn to protect this old man when nobody else would.
"No, sir," I stated firmly, my voice echoing in the grand hallway. "She isn't telling the truth. She locks him in the dark room at the end of the hall. She fired his physical therapists a month ago. She only lets him eat once a day, and she forces him to sign legal documents when he is too weak to read them."
Victoria let out a high-pitched gasp of pure, unadulterated horror.

"You lying peasant!" Victoria shrieked like a feral animal, lunging toward me.
👉 Julian stopped her with one hand, preparing to uncover the exact document Victoria had forced his father to sign.
