Chapter 7 - The Rightful Place

The chaotic, violent energy completely evaporated from the massive mansion.
Julian walked slowly over to his father's wheelchair. The terrifying, cold billionaire completely vanished. He dropped to his knees on the marble floor, wrapping his massive arms around the old man, burying his face in his father's velvet robe.
"I am so sorry I left you with her, Dad," Julian choked out, tears finally falling from his dark eyes. "She will never, ever hurt you again."
"I'm okay, Julian," Mr. Sterling smiled weakly, resting his trembling hand on his son's head. "She kept me safe."
Julian slowly stood up. He turned to me. I was still standing near the staircase, holding the bowl of soup, my hands trembling slightly from the adrenaline of the night.
"You stood between my father and a monster," Julian said softly, his dark eyes filled with profound, overwhelming respect. "You knew she could ruin your life, and you didn't back down. I have never seen loyalty like that."
"I just wanted him to eat, sir," I whispered.
"Your job as a maid ended the second you found that Will," Julian stated firmly.
He reached into his pocket and placed a heavy, solid black titanium keycard into my hand.
"You are moving out of the servant's quarters tonight," Julian vowed, the absolute power of his massive wealth backing every syllable. "I am elevating you to the Director of Household Operations. I am quadrupling your salary, providing a private suite for you and your baby, and you will have full authority over this estate. You are no longer the hired help. You are family."
Tears of pure, unadulterated relief and joy spilled down my cheeks.
