Chapter 6 - The Arrogant Parasite

Fifty miles away, at Walter’s sprawling countryside estate, Vince was throwing a massive party.
Vince was a cowardly, arrogant man in his late thirties who loved spending money he didn't earn. He stood on the beautiful hardwood deck that Walter had built with his own two hands, drinking expensive whiskey and laughing loudly with five of his hired thugs.
“Throw that garbage in the fire!” Vince slurred, pointing to a box of Walter’s personal belongings, including his old construction medals and family photo albums.
One of the thugs kicked the box toward the blazing fire pit in the yard.
“Can you believe that old fool?” Vince bragged to his friends, taking a sip of his drink. “Worked his entire life, saved up a fortune, and all it took was a few forged signatures while he was doped up on morphine to make it all mine! And the best part? I finally got rid of his annoying brat of a grandson and that crying wife of mine.”
“Aren't you worried she’ll go to the cops, boss?” one of the thugs asked, crushing a beer can.
Vince threw his head back and laughed. “Let her! I have the title! I have the deed! She has absolutely nothing! She’s probably begging for change under a bridge right now while we live like kings!”
Vince felt invincible. He had successfully stolen a dead man’s legacy, ruined an innocent family, and faced absolutely zero consequences. He walked over to the fire, preparing to personally burn the last photo album containing pictures of Eli.
But right before he could toss it into the flames, a strange, low sound echoed through the valley.
