Chapter 1 - The Hospital Ambush

The sterile American hospital room was filled with the quiet, rhythmic beeping of medical monitors. Elise, a young woman wearing a patterned hospital gown, lay shivering under light blue blankets. A horrific, dark purple bruise covered the right side of her face, and her arm was tightly secured in a dark blue medical sling.
She was completely defenseless.
Suddenly, the heavy wooden door violently swung open.
Ryan, her husband of three years, aggressively stormed into the room. He was in his thirties, wearing a sharp dark blue suit with an unbuttoned white shirt. His handsome face was twisted into a mask of pure, toxic entitlement. He didn't look worried about his battered wife; he looked furious that she was still alive.
Standing right behind him was Morgan. She was a woman in her late twenties with long, flowing blonde hair, wearing a skin-tight red mini dress and casually carrying a black designer purse. She crossed her arms, looking at Elise with a smug, highly satisfied smirk.
"My wife has a right to see me," Ryan yelled loudly, pointing an aggressive finger toward the bed. "I brought flowers."
But Ryan didn't get to step anywhere near his wife.
Stepping flawlessly into his path was Nia. She wore a crisp US Army camouflage uniform, a combat flag patch resting proudly on her shoulder. Her blonde hair was pulled back into a severe, flawless bun.

Nia didn't flinch. She stared the arrogant abuser down with the cold, lethal authority of a senior military investigator.
👉 Ryan thought he could easily bully his way to his wife’s bedside, completely unaware that he had just walked into a titanium wall.
