Chapter 5 - The Stolen Evidence

Ryan physically stiffened. He shot a panicked, threatening glare at his wife in the hospital bed.

"Shut your mouth, Elise," Ryan hissed, completely dropping his fake 'concerned husband' act. He took a threatening step forward. "You were concussed. You don't know what you're talking about."

Morgan shifted uncomfortably in the doorway, her manicured hands gripping her black purse a little too tightly. "Ryan, let's just get the doctors. She's obviously hallucinating."

But Nia didn't move. She didn't flinch.

Her expression hardened into absolute, terrifying calmness. The natural micro-expressions of a desperate mother vanished, entirely replaced by the chilling, untouchable aura of an apex predator who had successfully cornered her prey.

"She isn't hallucinating," Nia stated, her voice dangerously quiet. "She told me exactly what you hit her with. She told me you put it in the trunk of your car."

"You have no proof!" Ryan shouted loudly, his chest heaving as the adrenaline of pure panic began to set in. "I parked my car in the hospital garage! It's locked! You can't touch it without a warrant!"

Ryan thought he knew the law. He thought he could hide behind bureaucratic red tape.
