Chapter 4 - The Mother's Return

Ryan’s fatal mistake was assuming Elise was completely alone in the world.
For the past two years, Nia had been deployed overseas, serving as a highly decorated Senior Criminal Investigator for the US Army CID. Ryan had always mocked Nia, telling Morgan that Elise’s mother was just a "glorified filing clerk" who handed out uniforms.
When Nia received the emergency call from the hospital chaplain, she didn't just book a flight. She pulled massive federal strings, arrived in the United States in record time, and drove straight to the hospital in her combat uniform.
But Nia didn't just sit by her daughter’s bed and cry.
When Elise woke up and whispered the terrifying truth about the metal fireplace poker, Nia’s maternal grief instantly transformed into a cold, calculating, and absolutely lethal military operation.
While Ryan was busy sleeping with Morgan in a luxury hotel downtown, believing his wife was too terrified to speak, Nia had made a phone call to her closest contacts in the local police department.
Now, standing in the hospital room, Nia looked at the man who had shattered her daughter's arm.
Elise lay back against her pillows, her injured arm resting heavily in its blue sling. She looked up at her mother with tears in her eyes, finding an immense, overwhelming strength in her presence.

👉 Ryan's arrogant smirk faltered for a microsecond, totally unaware that his entire life was about to be violently dismantled.
