Chapter 3 - The Christmas Eviction

Robert marched into the decorated dining room. He was wearing a customized, expensive gray suit, a fake, charismatic smile plastered across his face.

But as soon as his sharp eyes landed on Elisa and Michael kneeling next to his wooden chair at the head of the table, his smile instantly vanished. A dark, terrifying flash of pure malice crossed his face. He noticed the piece of duct tape hanging loosely from the bottom of the seat.

Robert knew exactly what was missing.

He didn't scream. The cinematic realism of his restraint was deeply chilling. He calmly walked over to his wife.

"Elisa, darling," Robert said, his voice dropping into a lethal, quiet hiss. "Stand up."

Elisa stood up, trembling violently, instinctively pulling little Sophia behind her pinkish coat to protect her.

"Where is it?" Robert demanded, staring dead into Elisa's terrified eyes.

"Where is what, Robert?" Michael interjected, standing up to his full height, stepping directly between his sister and the abusive surgeon. "We were just looking for Sophia's lost earring."

Robert laughed—a harsh, cold, humorless sound.

"You think you're clever, Michael?" Robert sneered. "You think you can come into my house and dismantle my marriage? I know she gave it to you."

Robert turned his furious gaze back to Elisa. The mask was completely off. He didn't care that the background guests were staring in stunned silence.

"You want to sneak around like a rat in my house?" Robert roared, his voice suddenly echoing through the massive room. "Fine. You're done. Get out."

Elisa gasped. "Robert, please! It's Christmas Eve!"

"I don't care!" Robert shrieked, grabbing her violently by the arm and shoving her toward the front door. "You are officially evicted! Leave the child and get out of my sight before I call the police and tell them you assaulted me!"
