Chapter 9 - The Financial Checkmate

As the officers dragged Robert past the dining room threshold, Michael stepped forward, holding his cell phone up one last time.
"Oh, and Robert?" Michael called out smoothly.
Robert stopped thrashing for a second, looking back with wild, bloodshot eyes.
"While you were busy begging on the floor," Michael smiled, a cold, merciless grin, "I forwarded the audio file to the FBI, the State Medical Board, and your hospital's Chief of Surgery. Your medical license is permanently revoked. Your accounts are frozen pending a federal investigation. You are completely, irreversibly broke."
Robert’s eyes widened in sheer, unadulterated horror. The one thing he cared about more than anything—his wealth and his status—had just been entirely annihilated in a single email.
"You ruined me!" Robert wailed, his voice cracking with pure despair.
"No," Elisa stepped forward, holding Sophia's hand tightly. "You ruined yourself the second you tried to take a mother away from her child."
"Elisa! Have mercy!" Robert screamed, dragging his feet as the officers finally pulled him out of his own house and into the freezing snow.
"You showed my mother no mercy!" little Sophia yelled bravely, clutching her stuffed rabbit.
Robert’s desperate, pathetic cries faded down the driveway, ending his reign of psychological cruelty and violence forever. He would face the ultimate, brutal justice of the federal penal system.
