Chapter 5 - The Real Estate Reversal

The silence in the courthouse lobby was suffocating.
Claire took a slow, deep breath, her tailored navy pantsuit projecting the aura of a lethal apex predator. She didn't raise her voice. She didn't need to.
“Actually...” Claire started, her voice smooth, steady, and entirely devoid of human mercy. “I already sold that house.”
An extreme close-up captured Vivian. The elderly woman’s extended, pointing finger slowly began to lower. The cruel, absolute certainty on her face completely vanished, replaced by a sudden, jarring confusion.
"Excuse me?" Vivian stammered, looking back at Julian.
Julian stopped adjusting his silver cufflinks. He frowned, stepping forward with his chest puffed out, desperately trying to maintain control of the situation.
"You're completely delusional, Claire," Julian scoffed, though his voice lacked its previous booming confidence. "The Ashford Estate is owned by a private holding company. You don't have the deed. You don't have the authority to sell a single brick of that mansion."
"You're right, Julian. It is owned by a private holding company," Claire replied clinically, gripping her structured leather handbag. "A holding company that I established before we were married. The house was never in your name. It was never marital property."
Lila, standing in her ivory dress, physically staggered backward, her diamond bracelet catching the soft daylight as she grabbed Julian's arm in a sudden panic.

"What is she talking about, Julian?!" Lila demanded, her voice shrill.
👉 Claire didn't let Julian answer, choosing to reveal exactly who was moving into the mansion today.
