Chapter 5 - The Celebration of Liars

Inside the warm, luxurious master bedroom of the mansion, the storm outside was completely forgotten. A fire crackled warmly in the massive marble fireplace.
Richard fell back onto the expensive silk sheets, laughing triumphantly as he pulled Chloe into his arms. The forged DNA test lay discarded on the nightstand, its job perfectly executed.
"I have to admit, babe," Chloe purred, tracing her fingers over the stolen diamond ring now sitting proudly on her own hand. "That was completely brutal. I almost felt bad for her."
"Don't," Richard scoffed, taking a long sip of his bourbon. "She was a parasite. I was suffocating. Tomorrow is the most important day of my entire life. The board of directors is officially voting to name me the CEO of the global syndicate. I couldn't have some pathetic, pregnant nobody standing next to me in the press photos. I needed a queen."
He kissed Chloe deeply, drunk on his own perceived absolute power.
Richard believed he was the smartest man in the world. He had manipulated the board, stolen the company from his rivals, and now he had successfully disposed of his useless wife without losing a single penny of his vast fortune. He felt entirely untouchable. He was ready to conquer the corporate world.
