Chapter 2 - The Silent Ultrasound

The cinematic realism of the suffocating, paralyzing tension completely froze the sterile hallway.

Vincent violently grabbed Claire’s shoulder, forcing her to turn around. She didn't scream. She didn't try to slap him. A tight close-up captured Claire’s natural micro-expressions. The agonizing heartbreak in her eyes instantly vanished, violently replaced by a cold, lethal, and profoundly undeniable resolve.

Vincent’s desperate, panicked gaze dropped from his wife's face directly down to her hands.

He saw the stack of glossy medical papers clutched against her chest. At the very top of the stack was a clear, undeniable black-and-white sonogram image.

"Is that an ultrasound?" Vincent choked out, his voice completely dropping into a breathless, terrified whisper. His panic instantly transformed into absolute, apocalyptic shock.

For the last three years, Vincent had blamed Claire for their inability to conceive. He had repeatedly, toxically shamed her for being "broken," using her alleged infertility to completely justify his horrific, highly public affair with his beautiful young secretary. Sophia was currently six months pregnant with what Vincent believed to be his only heir.

But Claire wasn't looking at the mistress's stomach.

A medium close-up captured Claire staring directly into her husband's terrified eyes. She didn't offer a single ounce of human mercy.
