Chapter 1 - The Burned Card

The grand ballroom was a cinematic display of absolute, untouchable elite power. Warm, glowing light poured from massive crystal chandeliers, illuminating the flawless white marble floor and the towering arrangements of fresh white roses. Hundreds of incredibly wealthy, formally dressed corporate guests stood in the background, speaking in hushed, respectful tones.
At the center of the ballroom stood a highly polished mahogany table, covered in thick leather legal documents.
Sitting behind the table was Dominic Moretti. The forty-something mafia boss was devastatingly handsome, wearing a flawless, sharply tailored cream-colored suit. He held an expensive gold fountain pen, hovering the tip just inches above the final signature line of a multi-million-dollar estate transfer.
Standing right beside him, radiating toxic arrogance, was Margaret. The thirty-something socialite wore an elegant yellow designer gown, her wavy brown hair perfectly styled as she eagerly watched the pen.
But suddenly, a tiny, unexpected voice shattered the sophisticated tension.
"Mr. Moretti?"
Dominic physically froze. He slowly lowered his gold pen.
Standing directly in front of the polished mahogany table was an eight-year-old girl named Emily. She wore a simple, faded light blue lace dress, her brown hair tied with a slightly frayed white bow. In one hand, she tightly gripped a small, dented vintage lunchbox. In the other hand, she bravely held out a small white index card.
The edge of the white card was aggressively scorched and burned black.
A tight close-up captured Dominic. He stared down at the burned card, his natural micro-expressions shifting violently from polite confusion to absolute, unadulterated shock.

"Where did you get that?" Dominic choked out, his deep voice cracking.
👉 Margaret completely panicked, entirely unaware that the little girl in the blue dress was about to destroy her life.
