Chapter 4 - The Shattered Ego
Vincent stared blankly at the swinging glass doors Claire had just walked through.
If Claire was perfectly healthy, and she was currently holding a positive ultrasound, that meant the agonizing three-year struggle to conceive wasn't her fault at all.
Vincent slowly turned his head to look at Sophia. The beautiful blonde mistress was still clinging to his arm, rubbing her swollen stomach protectively.
"Vincent, what is wrong with you?" Sophia whined, her toxic arrogance flaring. "We have our own baby to worry about! Who cares if she got knocked up by some random guy to save her pride?"
Vincent physically recoiled from her touch. The absolute, crushing magnitude of his own horrific arrogance hit him with the force of a freight train.
Before Claire had walked out of the specialist's office holding that ultrasound, the doctor had handed Vincent a sealed, highly confidential envelope containing his own comprehensive genetic test results—tests Claire had secretly submitted on his behalf weeks ago.
Vincent’s hands shook violently as he reached into his white suit jacket. He pulled out the crumpled medical report he had been too arrogant to open in the waiting room.
