Chapter 4 - The Sapphire Ring

The dead silence in the grand living room was absolutely deafening.

Sterling physically staggered backward, his black tuxedo suddenly feeling like a suffocating cage. He looked at Julian, then at his soaking-wet wife, sheer terror radiating from his natural micro-expressions. He had absolutely no idea they knew each other.

But Harper, completely blinded by her own toxic greed, refused to let the two-hundred-million-dollar deal slip away.

A tight close-up focused on the blonde mistress. Harper nervously stepped forward in her cream silk dress. In a move of absolute, sickening desperation, she flashed her left hand, aggressively showing off a massive, incredibly expensive sapphire and diamond ring.

"There must be a misunderstanding, sir," Harper stammered, looking frantically between the two wealthy men. "Eleanor is just the assistant! Sterling and I are the founders! Sterling gave this to me for our anniversary!"

Julian slowly turned his head, looking down at the massive sapphire ring glittering on the mistress's finger.

The temperature in the roaring living room seemed to instantly drop ten degrees.

A medium close-up captured Julian slowly lowering his crystal champagne glass. He didn't yell. His quietness was infinitely more terrifying. He glared at Sterling with pure, unfiltered, and absolute disgust. The massive, life-changing business deal instantly crumbled into dust right in front of Sterling's eyes.
