Chapter 6 - The Whisper

My father tried to swallow, but his throat was completely dry. He physically staggered, bumping into his heavy gold chair.

"Elias..." my father choked out, his voice cracking with pure desperation. He forced a pathetic, trembling smile. "I... I had no idea you were Emma’s guest. If I had known, I would have prepared a seat for you at the front table! Please, come join us!"

"I prefer to stand," Elias replied, entirely devoid of mercy.

He released my hand for a brief second and slowly walked up to the VIP table. The four private security guards seamlessly formed a perimeter behind him, completely blocking the exits.

Elias leaned in close to my father. He didn't yell. He whispered, but in the dead silence of the ballroom, his words were razor-sharp.

"Did you really think you could steal from the woman I love and use my banking network to hide the money?" Elias asked softly.

My father’s knees buckled. He completely collapsed back into his chair, his chest heaving as pure, unadulterated terror hijacked his nervous system.

Vanessa, utterly confused and furious that her spotlight had been stolen, slammed her hands on the table.

👉 Vanessa thought she could command the room, but I was finally ready to open my small silver clutch.
