Chapter 8 - The Frozen Empire

The silence in the grand ballroom was absolutely apocalyptic.

The wealthy politicians, business partners, and investors who had been drinking my father's champagne were now staring at him in complete, disgusted horror. Embezzling from a client was a crime. Embezzling millions from your own daughter's inheritance was a profound, unforgivable sickness.

My father looked at me, tears of pure, humiliating panic welling in his eyes.

"Emma, please," my father begged, the arrogant, mocking king completely reduced to a pathetic, weeping coward. "I'm your father! I'll pay it back! Just don't give that drive to the authorities! It will destroy my company!"

"You don't have a company anymore, Richard," I replied, pulling the three signed legal documents from my clutch.

I dropped the injunctions onto the table.

"These are emergency federal freezing orders, signed by a judge two hours ago," I explained with cold, cinematic precision. "Every single bank account tied to your social security number, every corporate line of credit, and the deed to your Hamptons house are completely locked. You have absolutely nothing."

Vanessa let out a hysterical, high-pitched shriek. "No! My brand! You can't freeze my accounts! My honeymoon flights are tomorrow! I have vendors to pay!"

"Then you better start walking to Bora Bora," I stated smoothly. "Because the credit cards in your purse are currently declining."

👉 Vanessa turned to her new groom for support, but the ultimate betrayal of the night was about to hit her.
