Chapter 7 - The Intercepted Message

For the first time since Lorenzo walked through the door, genuine, unadulterated terror appeared in Valentina’s eyes.

Lorenzo knew he had just used the perfect word. Innocent people hated accusations. But guilty people feared witnesses. And in Lorenzo's world, a witness meant a death sentence for the traitor.

Lorenzo escorted the shivering maid out of the luxury suite, leaving Valentina completely isolated and trapped in her room under heavy guard.

At the bottom of the grand staircase, little Lena broke away from a security guard and ran desperately toward them. "Mama!"

Sophia dropped to her knees on the marble floor. Lena threw herself into her mother's arms, and both of them began sobbing loudly, clinging to each other in pure relief.

Lorenzo stood silently, watching them. His gaze slowly drifted toward the white roses still scattered across the foyer. He had bought them to celebrate a life with the woman he loved. Now, lying broken on the floor, they looked exactly like flowers placed at a fresh grave.

Marco, his massive chief of security, appeared silently beside him. "The gates are locked, Boss. What happened?"

Lorenzo stared at the scattered roses. "Pull every single phone record, text message, and bank transfer Valentina has made over the last six months. Everything."

Marco’s expression sharpened into lethal focus. "And if she’s involved in the mountain road attack?"

Lorenzo looked at Lena clinging to her mother's wet uniform. His voice dropped to an almost inaudible, chilling whisper. "Then the woman sleeping beside me has been planning my death."

Marco nodded slowly. Then, he hesitated. "There’s something else, Boss."

Lorenzo turned his head. "What?"

Marco held out his encrypted security tablet. "We just intercepted a burner phone text message pinging off the estate's private cell tower five minutes ago."

"From whom?"

"We don't know yet," Marco said grimly.

Lorenzo took the tablet. The intercepted text message contained only one terrifying sentence:
