Chapter 8 - The True Mastermind

Lorenzo stared at the glowing screen. His blood turned to absolute ice.
He immediately looked back up the grand staircase toward Valentina’s locked suite. "Did she send this?"
Marco shook his head slowly, his expression darker than Lorenzo had ever seen it. "No, Boss. We confiscated Valentina’s phone the second you locked her in. The message wasn't sent from her room."
Lorenzo’s eyes narrowed into dangerous slits. "Then whose phone sent it?"
"We tracked the signal," Marco said, his voice tense with suppressed rage. "It came from the west wing. Specifically, from the guest house."
For the first time that entire afternoon, Lorenzo felt the true weight of the betrayal crush the air out of his lungs. He realized Valentina wasn't the most dangerous person inside his house. She was just a pawn.
The guest house was currently occupied by only one man.
Dante. Lorenzo’s older brother.
Dante had returned from Europe three months ago, claiming he wanted to reconnect with the family. He had been the one who suggested Lorenzo take the mountain road on the day of the first ambush. He had been the one pushing Lorenzo to marry Valentina quickly.
If Lorenzo died, and Valentina inherited the empire, Dante could easily manipulate the naive, greedy woman and take total control of the syndicate for himself.
"He's making his move tonight," Lorenzo whispered, a cold, calculated fury replacing all his shock.
"What are your orders, Boss?" Marco asked, his hand resting firmly on the grip of his holstered weapon.
"Move Sophia and Lena to the underground safe room immediately. Keep them under heavy guard. They are not to be touched," Lorenzo commanded. "Then, gather the strike team. We are going to pay my brother a visit."
