Chapter 2 - The Chilling Composure

The cinematic tension in the grand foyer spiked to a suffocating, terrifying level.

At the sound of Marcus’s booming voice, Vanessa physically froze mid-swing. For a fraction of a microsecond, pure, unfiltered panic flashed across her beautiful, contoured face. She had been caught red-handed, behaving like a brutal, abusive monster in the center of the billionaire’s sanctuary.

But Vanessa was a terrifyingly skilled manipulator.

With cinematic, horrifying speed, the panic in her eyes instantly evaporated. She slowly lowered the heavy antique wooden cane to the marble floor. She took a slow, deep breath, perfectly calming her natural breathing, and instantly replaced her guilt with a cold, practiced, and entirely arrogant expression.

Using her free hand, Vanessa casually smoothed down the front of her expensive burgundy silk dress, acting as if she had just been interrupted while arranging flowers rather than attempting to assault a human being.

"She broke the anniversary vase," Vanessa stated. Her voice was incredibly cold, entirely dismissive, and completely devoid of any human empathy. She didn't even look down at the woman trembling at her feet. "Sometimes staff needs correcting."

Marcus felt the blood violently drain from his handsome face.

He stared at the woman he was supposed to marry in less than a month. He had always known Vanessa was strict with the household employees, demanding perfection and absolute obedience. But he had never, in his darkest nightmares, imagined that she was capable of physical violence.

The absolute, chilling casualness with which she justified beating a maid with a gold-handled cane made Marcus’s stomach turn with profound disgust.

👉 Vanessa thought she could charm her way out of the situation, completely oblivious to the fury building in her fiancé's chest.
