Chapter 4 - The Delusion of Power

Vanessa stood her ground in her elegant burgundy gown, gripping the gold handle of the antique cane.
Instead of apologizing, instead of showing even a single ounce of remorse for nearly bludgeoning an innocent woman, Vanessa actually rolled her eyes. She let out a small, incredibly entitled scoff, shifting her weight flawlessly in her designer heels.
"Marcus, you're making far too much of this," Vanessa scoffed cruelly, looking at him as if he were a naive child overreacting to a spilled glass of water. "She destroyed a priceless heirloom. You cannot let these people walk all over you, or they will completely ruin this estate. I am managing your household."
Vanessa was completely, utterly oblivious to the fact that her entire future as a billionaire's wife had just been permanently destroyed.
Marcus completely ignored her toxic, arrogant delusion.
He turned his back entirely on the woman he once loved. He slowly crouched down to the cold marble floor, completely disregarding his expensive tailored suit trousers as they pressed against the sharp porcelain shards of the shattered vase.
He lowered himself directly to Dorothy's level, ensuring he wasn't looming over her. The lethal, dangerous fury in his eyes instantly melted away, replaced by a profound, genuine, and incredibly deep concern.
"Dorothy," Marcus asked, his voice gentle, steady, and incredibly safe. "Are you hurt?"
