Chapter 7 - The Desperate Escape

"That is a complete, psychotic lie!" Vanessa wailed, taking a desperate step backward toward the heavy mahogany front doors. "She is a jealous, deranged maid! She planted that to frame me! Marcus, you cannot believe this garbage!"
Marcus didn't scream. He didn't lose his temper. The absolute betrayal settled into his chest, turning his heart into cold, impenetrable titanium.
He didn't need a confession. He had the vial, and he knew exactly what was happening to his body.
Marcus calmly reached into his tailored navy suit jacket and pulled out his cell phone. He pressed a single button, connecting directly to the estate's massive security hub.
"Lock down the perimeter," Marcus ordered his head of security, his voice completely dead and devoid of any human warmth. "Nobody leaves the grounds. And call the authorities immediately."
Vanessa let out a horrific, high-pitched shriek of pure, apocalyptic terror.
She turned and sprinted toward the massive front doors in her expensive designer heels. She grabbed the heavy brass handles, pulling frantically, desperately trying to escape the mansion before the police arrived. But the electronic deadbolts had already slammed shut with a heavy, terrifying click.
She was completely, entirely trapped in the prison she had tried to rule.
