Chapter 6 - The Poisoned Tea

The cinematic realism of the suffocating, paralyzing silence gripped the grand foyer.

"She's a thief!" Vanessa screamed wildly, her face turning pale with absolute panic. "She was stealing my medication! Marcus, throw her out right now! Call the police and have her arrested!"

"I didn't break the vase, Mr. Bennett," Dorothy spoke up. Her voice was no longer quiet or restrained. It was clear, steady, and incredibly brave. "She threw the vase at me because she caught me taking that vial out of your private study."

Marcus frowned, looking at the dark glass. "My study?"

"For the past three weeks, Miss Vanessa has been insisting on making your evening tea herself," Dorothy explained, tears of anxiety finally spilling down her cheeks. "But I saw her putting drops from this vial into your cup every single night. When I tried to clean the study this afternoon, I found it hidden behind your books. I grabbed it to show you."

Marcus’s heart completely stopped. The blood violently drained from his face.

For the past three weeks, Marcus had been experiencing inexplicable, terrifying health issues. He had suffered from severe vertigo, chronic fatigue, and sudden, aggressive nosebleeds. His private doctors were baffled, scheduling him for massive neurological exams.

He slowly turned his head to look at the beautiful, arrogant blonde woman in the burgundy silk gown.
