Chapter 4 - The Test of Character

Landon looked at the woman he had almost tied his life to.

"I drove a used truck and lived in an apartment because I wanted to know if you loved me, or if you loved the money," Landon said, his voice dripping with profound disappointment. "I thought I found a woman who valued family over wealth. But the second you put that white dress on, the mask slipped."

He looked disgustedly at Margot, who was hyperventilating in her red gown.

"You called my father gutter trash," Landon said, his voice lowering to a dangerous, lethal rumble. "My father worked three shifts at a steel mill for thirty years so I could afford to go to college. He broke his back so I could build Vanguard. He is a king. And you aren't worthy of breathing the same air as him."

Margot stumbled backward, her hand flying to her chest. The realization that she had just violently insulted the man holding her family’s financial future in his hands crushed her.

"Landon, please!" Richard panicked, stepping around the table, completely dropping his aggressive posture. "Let's not let emotions ruin a beautiful partnership! We are family now! Margot, apologize to Frank immediately!"

Margot opened her mouth, choking on her own massive, toxic ego. "I... I'm sorry, Frank."

Frank looked at her, his eyes filled with quiet dignity. He didn't say a word. He just turned to his son.

"I don't accept forced apologies from parasites," Landon stated coldly.
