Chapter 5 - Enzo Finally Asked What Helena Had Been Trying to Teach His Son
For the first time, Enzo stopped asking only what Helena did.
He asked why.
The answer began months earlier.
Helena had been living at the Caradonna estate as Enzo’s partner for almost a year.
She had her own money.
Her own investments.
Her own apartment in the city.
She did not need Enzo financially.
That made her behavior harder for outsiders to understand.
This was not about stealing his house.
Or gaining access to some hidden inheritance.
Helena wanted something less tangible and, in its way, more dangerous.
Authority.
She believed Enzo was raising Leo badly.
Too much affection.
Too few consequences.
Too much patience.
If Leo cried for his father, Enzo picked him up.
If he was frightened at night, Enzo stayed beside him.
If he refused food, Enzo offered something else later instead of forcing him.
Helena called that weakness.
Once, during dinner, she told Enzo:
“You’re raising a boy who thinks love means everybody rearranges themselves around him.”
Enzo laughed it off.
Helena didn’t.
She believed that before she ever married Enzo, Leo needed to understand the household hierarchy.
Enzo was the father.
Helena would become the mother figure.
Leo would obey.
Immediately.
Without negotiation.
When Enzo traveled, Helena saw her opportunity.
She wasn’t merely punishing Leo.
