Chapter 9 - Enzo Did Not Let Helena Back Into the House

Helena returned the following morning with an attorney.

Enzo met them outside.

Not in the garage.

Not near Leo.

The child was with Claire and the pediatrician.

Helena demanded access to her belongings.

Enzo arranged supervised collection later.

Then she tried to explain.

“You walked into the worst possible moment.”

Enzo stared at her.

“There was a better moment?”

“I was disciplining him.”

“He’s three.”

“He’s manipulative.”

“He’s three.”

“You have no idea what he’s like when you’re gone.”

That sentence nearly made Enzo lose control again.

He forced himself not to.

Instead he placed copies of Claire’s messages on the table.

Helena’s face changed.

She immediately attacked Claire’s credibility.

“Of course the maid says that. She hates me.”

Enzo answered:

“You wrote the messages.”

Silence.

Then Helena switched tactics.

“You told me you wanted him to grow up strong.”

“I did.”

“That requires discipline.”

“Not hunger.”

“He was never starving.”

Enzo leaned forward.

“The fact that you think that distinction saves you is exactly why you are never going near him again.”

For the first time, Helena understood the relationship was over.
