Chapter 10 - Nora Wasn’t After Daniel’s Life Alone
The deeper truth came out over the next twenty-four hours.
Daniel contacted his attorney.
Then his physician.
Then a private lab.
What was left in the vial and on the ruined cookie fragments was enough to raise immediate alarm: the substance appeared to be a concentrated compound capable of causing severe gastrointestinal distress, dizziness, and potentially far worse complications depending on dosage and interaction.
It wasn’t kitchen glaze.
It wasn’t an innocent additive.
And when Daniel’s attorney began reviewing recent financial activity, another layer surfaced.
Nora had quietly asked detailed questions over the previous month about Daniel’s life insurance policies, trust documents, and guardianship instructions for Lily.
The guardianship question chilled him most.
Because if Daniel became incapacitated or died before updating his estate, Nora would temporarily control significant household assets—at least until probate and custody proceedings caught up.
She might not have been aiming for immediate murder.
But she had clearly been planning for a future in which Daniel was weakened, confused, or removed from the center of power.
And Lily?
Lily was the one person who stood between Nora and a clean lie.
The child had seen too much.
Which explained the cruelty.
The isolation.
The threats.
And the sheer panic when Lily ran into the dining room.
