Fiona’s pregnancy had been expected to secure that position.
Except her baby was not biologically Julian’s.
Lily was.

Dana said:
“This is why someone may have worked so hard to keep Lily invisible.”
I looked at Fiona.
She admitted intercepting my certified letter.
Why?
“I thought you were trying to pull Julian back.”
“Did you open it?”
“Yes.”
“So you knew I was pregnant.”
“Yes.”
“Did you know the baby might be his?”
“Yes.”
My hands shook.
“You hid his daughter.”
She looked away.
“I thought if Julian knew, he would leave me.”
There it was.
Fear.
Selfish.

Then:
“Did your father know?”
“Yes.”
Gordon knew.
That mattered more.
He had motive tied to corporate control.
Then Fiona said:
“He told me if Lily was Julian’s, everything would fall apart.”
Everything.
Not marriage.
Deal.
Power.
She had been emotionally desperate.
Gordon strategically desperate.
Different.
Then one of Julian’s trustees came forward.
Gordon had offered him money months earlier to reinterpret descendant-beneficiary language.
Bribery.
Now prosecutors became interested.
