Chapter 10 - Grace Had Never Left the Country
Aldo’s private investigator had tracked Grace after her disappearance.
That discovery changed everything.
The file contained reports for six weeks.
Grace’s car was found at a train station.
But she never boarded a train.
Her passport was never used.
No international travel.
No airline record.
No border crossing.
Then a report mentioned a private women’s recovery residence outside Hartford.
Aldo’s investigator wrote:
Subject believed admitted under alternate surname. Access restricted. Further surveillance discontinued at family instruction.
Luciano stared at the line.
“Family instruction.”
Whose?
Aldo’s.
The residence still existed.
It specialized in trauma, postpartum mental-health care, and domestic coercion recovery.
Old patient records were protected.
Luciano could not simply demand them.
But his attorney contacted the facility and supplied proof of marriage, Grace’s disappearance status, and relevant legal concerns.
The facility confirmed only one thing initially:
Grace had been there.
Alive.
For nine weeks after she supposedly abandoned Ellie.
Luciano almost dropped the phone.
Grace had not disappeared immediately.
She was thirty miles away.
