Chapter 12 - I Had to Answer for Throwing the Bouquet Too
What Bianca did to Lila was far worse than what I did with a bouquet.
That did not make my reaction automatically wise.
I entered a room where my toddler had just been struck.
I pulled Lila behind me.
At that point, she was protected.
Then I took Bianca’s bouquet and threw it hard into her face and chest.
Flowers are not a fist.
But my action was still retaliation driven by rage.
Later, when Lila became old enough to understand the story in simple terms, I did not tell her:
Daddy punished Bianca.
I told her:
“Daddy got very angry. I protected you first, but then I did something because I was angry.”
That distinction mattered.
I wanted my daughter growing up understanding that love does not require theatrical revenge.
Protection means removing danger.
Getting medical help.
Preserving evidence.
Calling the right people.
Setting boundaries.
Leaving.
The bouquet looked dramatic.
