Chapter 9 - The Dinner Witnesses Did Not Tell the Story Daniel Expected
Daniel assumed family loyalty would protect him.
It didn’t.
Anne gave a statement.
So did another guest named Robert Mills.
Robert had been seated three chairs away.
He told the evaluator:
“Daniel slapped Claire first.”
Margaret’s attorney asked:
“Did Claire then physically assault Margaret?”
“Yes.”
“Did she overturn a table?”
“Yes.”
“Would you describe Claire as calm?”
“No.”
Then Robert added:
“But if you’re asking whether I thought she arrived intending violence, absolutely not.”
He described Noah clinging to Claire.
Daniel crowding her.
Margaret stepping in immediately afterward.
The sequence mattered.
Another guest said she had heard Margaret tell someone before dinner:
“Tonight everyone will finally see.”
That phrase became significant.
Not proof of conspiracy.
Proof of expectation.
Margaret was not surprised by the conflict.
She had been anticipating it.
