Chapter 10 - The Second DNA Test Changed Two Children’s Lives
Rachel agreed to a legally supervised paternity test.
Not for Callum.
For Owen.
She told her son the truth before any sample was taken.
Owen knew someone named Callum had once been tested.
He did not know the test had been manipulated.
The result came back.
Greater than 99.99 percent probability.
Callum was Owen’s biological father.
He had two children.
Not one.
And his mother had tried to erase both of them from his life using the same false DNA profile.
When Callum received the result, his first impulse was to drive to Owen’s home.
Rachel stopped that.
Through their attorneys, she said:
“You waited fourteen years. He gets to decide the pace now.”
Callum listened.
For once.
He wrote Owen a letter.
Not:
I didn’t know.
That would have been partly true and partly evasive.
He wrote:
Your mother told me the original test was wrong. I chose not to investigate further. My mother deceived me, but I also failed you. I will not ask you to forgive me. If you ever want answers, I will give them honestly.
