Chapter 7 - Lenore Had Never Been Protecting Callum From “Bad Women”
For years, Lenore described herself as protective.
She said Rachel wanted money.
Said I isolated Callum from his family.
Said women became manipulative once they realized the Whitmores had property and investments.
The old paternity fraud revealed the deeper pattern.
Lenore did not distrust every woman.
She distrusted anyone who gave Callum a family center that did not include her.
Rachel got pregnant when Callum was twenty-three.
If Callum became a father, he might move out permanently.
Take a full-time job farther away.
Build a household with Rachel.
Lenore made the problem disappear.
Fourteen years later, she could not erase me so easily.
We were already married.
Maisie already existed.
But over the previous year, Callum had finally started setting boundaries.
No unannounced visits.
No Lenore making school decisions.
No changing holiday plans without asking us.
Most importantly, Callum had recently told her:
“Brenna and Maisie come first.”
That sentence triggered something old.
Instead of accepting her adult son had a family—
Lenore attacked the legitimacy of the family itself.
