Chapter 14 - Garrett Stopped Using Blood as the Definition of Family

The irony was impossible to miss.

Lorraine had spent decades obsessed with blood.

Who was biological.

Who was legitimate.

Who had the Bennett name.

And yet the person who did the most damage to the Bennett family was unquestionably related to all of them.

Garrett learned something from Daniel.

Blood can establish ancestry.

It cannot guarantee loyalty.

A DNA test proved Theo was Garrett’s biological son.

That mattered for truth.

For medical history.

For legal records.

But it did not create fatherhood on the day the result arrived.

Garrett had already been Theo’s father every night he woke at 2 a.m.

Every pediatric appointment.

Every diaper.

Every whispered lullaby after Hannah died.

The result corrected a lie.

It did not manufacture love.

That distinction eventually became the foundation of how Garrett explained the story to Theo.
