The morning after meeting Malcolm, Garrett took Theo to an accredited laboratory.
Identity documented.
Photo identification.
Witnessed cheek swab.
Chain-of-custody seals.
Garrett provided his own sample in the same room.
No mother collecting anything.
No private nurse.
No unlabeled envelope.
No room for family interpretation.
He did not tell Lorraine.
The lab expedited the analysis.
The result came back the next afternoon.
Greater than 99.99 percent probability.
Garrett Bennett was Theo’s biological father.
He sat in his car reading the number again and again.
For fifteen months, Lorraine had called Theo illegitimate.
For eleven months, Garrett had grieved Hannah while quietly carrying a doubt she never deserved.
Now he had proof.
But there was something else attached.
The accredited lab compared the verified genetic profiles with the identifiers shown on Lorraine’s earlier report.
The male specimen originally labeled as Garrett was inconsistent with Garrett’s actual profile.
The first test had used someone else’s DNA.
That was why Garrett was driving to the mansion with the paper in his pocket.
