Legally buried beneath two holding companies.
Vivian’s former stepson owned thirty percent.
A trust controlled by Vivian’s financial adviser owned another forty.
The rest belonged to an events executive who had worked with her for years.
Related-party relationship.
Never disclosed.
But the worst discovery wasn’t fraud.
It was why the family kept refusing to question Vivian.
For nearly fifteen years, she had controlled something else.
Information.
Their father, Charles Carter, had suffered a major stroke before his death.
Vivian became his primary administrative caregiver.
Bills.
Medical records.
Visitor schedules.
Legal correspondence.
Family members depended on her interpretation.
After he died, questions arose about changes to foundation authority made in his final year.
Vivian said Charles insisted.
Nobody challenged it.
Caroline did.
She compared old board minutes with medical capacity notes.
Dates did not match neatly.
On two occasions, Charles supposedly approved major governance changes during weeks when doctors documented serious communication impairment.
Not proof of fabrication.
But enough to demand review.
Caroline’s investigation was no longer about event invoices.
It threatened the foundation structure Vivian had built her entire identity around.
If Caroline exposed that, Vivian could lose everything that made her powerful.
