Chapter 1 - The Tiny Confrontation
The grand, heavily fortified drawing room of the sprawling Marquetti estate was a place where hardened criminals, corrupt politicians, and heavily armed enforcers came to beg for mercy. It was an intimidating, darkly elegant space filled with imported Italian leather, polished mahogany, and an atmosphere of absolute, suffocating terror.
But this morning, the terrifying silence of the room was completely shattered by the incredibly confident, tiny footsteps of a little girl.
Lily Reyes was four years old, possessing long, beautiful wavy light-brown hair held back by a massive, bright pink bow. She wore an adorable pink floral lace dress, white ruffled socks, and tiny pink shoes. She looked entirely like a porcelain doll, but she possessed the unyielding, fearless spirit of an absolute tyrant.
Lily marched directly across the expensive Persian rug, completely ignoring the massive, armed bodyguards standing in the shadows. She planted her tiny pink shoes firmly on the floor directly in front of the most dangerous man in the city.
Vincent Marquetti was forty-eight years old, a towering, muscular, and movie-star handsome man. He had thick dark wavy hair, light stubble, and intense blue-gray eyes. Intricate, dark black tattoos crawled aggressively across his neck, upper chest, forearms, and hands, visible beneath his tailored black suit and open-collar white shirt. He was the undisputed, utterly ruthless boss of the city's mafia syndicate.
Lily folded her tiny arms tightly across her chest and stared up at the giant mobster.
Just a few feet behind her, her mother, Elena—a twenty-nine-year-old maid wearing a navy-and-white uniform and a white apron—completely froze, her expressive eyes wide with pure, paralyzing horror.
