Chapter 4 - The Time-Out

Vincent looked at Elena as if he were entirely expecting the mother to sprint forward, grab her child, and frantically apologize for the incredible disrespect.

But Elena was completely, hopelessly paralyzed by fear. She just looked at the terrifying boss with wide, horrified eyes and managed a tiny, desperate, trembling shake of her head, completely unable to form words.

Seeing that her mother wasn't going to intervene, Lily uncrossed her arms. With absolute, tyrannical authority, the four-year-old pointed her tiny finger decisively toward an empty corner of the drawing room, right beside a tall, decorative potted plant.

Vincent looked slowly toward the empty corner. Then, he turned his head and looked back at the tiny, fiercely determined girl in the pink lace dress.

Across the room, the massive, deeply intimidating senior enforcer, Tony, suddenly pressed his thick lips tightly together, his broad shoulders trembling as he desperately, frantically tried to stop himself from bursting into hysterical laughter at the absurdity of the situation.

"You’re putting me in time-out?" Vincent asked. His deep, rumbling voice was incredibly low, his blue-gray eyes narrowed in sheer, unadulterated, and stunned incredulity.

Lily didn't verbally answer. She simply gave a single, firm nod.

Without an ounce of hesitation, the tiny girl reached out, her incredibly small, soft hand grabbing gently but firmly onto Vincent’s massive, heavily tattooed index finger. With all the strength her four-year-old body could muster, she started physically pulling the most feared mafia boss in the city toward the punishment corner.

Tony finally had to physically turn his face toward the wall, his massive shoulders shaking uncontrollably with completely suppressed laughter.

"Corner," Lily commanded, her serious face unwavering, her tiny voice calm and absolutely certain of her ultimate authority. "Sit. Think about it."
