Chapter 10 - The New Family

Elena gasped, covering her mouth with her hand as she finally realized that she and her daughter were completely, unconditionally safe.
The next morning, the grand mansion was transformed. Victor's entire extortion ring was dismantled by Dante's men, freeing dozens of innocent people from crushing debt.
Elena was no longer assigned to scrub floors. Dante personally promoted her to the Head of Estate Operations, doubling her salary and moving her and Sophie out of their cramped apartment and into a beautiful, secure private suite on the estate grounds.
As for little Sophie, she didn't have to carry a mop ever again.
A week later, Dante sat in his luxurious home office, reviewing syndicate contracts. The heavy wooden doors slowly creaked open. Sophie peeked her blonde head into the room, no longer wearing a dirty apron, but a beautiful new floral dress.
She bravely marched up to Dante's massive mahogany desk and placed a small, hand-drawn picture right on top of his contracts. It was a drawing of a tall man holding a little girl's hand.

Dante looked at the drawing, and the ruthless, cold mafia boss smiled a genuine, warm smile. He realized that the greatest strength in his empire didn't come from fear or guns, but from the unshakeable loyalty of a tiny, brave girl who was willing to work to save the people she loved.
Do you think Victor’s fate in the warehouse was justified, or did he deserve a chance to explain himself to the police?
