Chapter 6 - The Midnight Meeting

At exactly midnight, the back alley behind the massive estate was freezing and pitch black, illuminated only by a single flickering security light.

Elena stood shivering by the loading dock, wearing a thin coat, holding the thick stack of cash tightly to her chest.

A sleek black SUV pulled into the alley, its headlights blinding her. The heavy car door opened, and Victor stepped out. He was a large, arrogant man wearing a leather jacket. On the back of his right hand, clearly visible under the flickering light, was a large tattoo of a coiled snake.

"Well, well," Victor sneered, walking up to the terrified mother. "You look like you're freezing, Elena. Good thing I brought a warm car for you to ride in."

"I have the money," Elena choked out, holding out the stack of bills with shaking hands. "Fifty thousand. Just like you asked. Now leave me and my daughter alone."

Victor snatched the cash from her hands. He flipped through the crisp hundreds, a wicked, greedy smile spreading across his face.

"This is a good start, Elena," Victor laughed, shoving the money into his leather jacket. "But I think the interest just went up again. You owe me another fifty by Friday, or the kid goes into foster care."

He reached out, his massive hand aggressively grabbing Elena’s injured wrist again.

"Let's go for a ride," Victor demanded.
