Chapter 4 - The Dead Woman's Note

It was a tiny, fragile sound, but it hit the silent room like an apocalyptic thunderclap.

Vincent’s breath caught in his throat. He dropped back down to his knees instantly, entirely ignoring Dominic.

"I'm here, baby," Vincent choked out, tears of profound relief flooding his dark eyes. "I'm right here. What is it?"

Isabella opened the lid of the music box. She didn't pull out a spinning ballerina. She reached beneath the velvet lining and pulled out a small, crumpled piece of heavy cardstock paper, handing it directly to her father.

Vincent unfolded the crumpled paper with heavily tattooed, trembling hands.

It wasn't a child's drawing. It was a handwritten note, scribbled frantically by his late wife, Elena, on the back of a bank deposit slip.

Vincent. Dominic is stealing from the offshore trust. He transferred forty million to a shell company in the Caymans. I confronted him today. He told me if I told you, he would ensure I never made it home. Protect Bella.

The date stamped on the deposit slip was exactly eleven months ago.

The exact same day Elena’s car was violently run off a cliff by an unidentified black SUV.

👉 Vincent looked up at Dominic, realizing the man who murdered his wife had been pretending to mourn with him for an entire year.
