Chapter 2 - The Perfect Stance

Time seemed to slow down entirely in the grand ballroom.

The wealthy guests gasped in collective horror, fully expecting to hear the sickening crack of the stiletto heel striking human bone, followed by the catastrophic, deafening crash of hundreds of crystal champagne flutes shattering across the black-and-white checkered marble floor.

But the crash never came.

Instead of screaming, flinching, or falling backward in a clumsy, terrified panic, Sophia's body reacted automatically. Her physical response completely bypassed her conscious, logical brain, driven entirely by years of brutal, deeply ingrained, elite muscle memory.

Moving with impossible, lightning-fast precision, Sophia took a perfectly calculated half-step back. She smoothly lowered her center of gravity, bending her knees slightly, her spine perfectly straight. In a fraction of a second, the humble, submissive maid completely transformed, shifting her body weight into a flawless, textbook martial arts defensive combat stance.

Victoria remained frozen in her high kick pose, her leg fully extended in the air. Her face, previously twisted in arrogant triumph, began to freeze in absolute, unadulterated shock. She hadn't hit her target. She had hit an impenetrable brick wall.

In the immediate background, standing just ten feet away, was Alexander.

He was a tall, incredibly intimidating man in his thirties, wearing a black shirt unbuttoned at the collar that revealed dark, intricate mafia tattoos, paired with a sharp, tailored black suit jacket. He was the undisputed Boss of the New York syndicate, a man who had survived countless assassination attempts and commanded absolute terror in the criminal underworld.
