Chapter 5 - The Mafia's Heir

Dominic slowly lowered the wooden horse. His highly tactical, brilliant mind was desperately doing the math in his head.

He had left Claire exactly five years ago.

The terrified little boy hiding behind her white apron was four years old.

Dominic completely bypassed the arrogance of his immense wealth and terrifying power. He slowly, deliberately crouched down on the polished marble floor in his expensive tailored suit, bringing himself perfectly to the little boy's eye level.

"Noah," Claire whispered fearfully, trying to pull her son back, terrified of the dangerous man she thought had abandoned her.

But Noah didn't shrink away. He peeked out from behind the apron, looking up at the towering, tattooed man.

A medium close-up captured the devastatingly beautiful, paralyzing moment. Dominic stared deeply into the little boy's face. He saw the exact shape of his own jawline. He saw his own dark, unmistakable, piercing eyes staring innocently back at him. And when Noah nervously bit his lip, a distinct, deep dimple appeared on his left cheek—the exact same dimple Dominic had.

The terrifying apex predator completely stopped breathing. The air in his lungs violently turned to absolute ice.

He looked up at Claire, his heart physically shattering in his chest.
